I bought a set of clippers a while back and attempted to cut his nails on my own. I already give him baths myself (groomers are wonderful, but they're not cheap) and thought if I could do his nails, I'd save a ton of money. It turned out that I didn't have a way to keep him from moving around too much, I had no experience doing it, and he had no interest in being helpful. So, I take him to Petsmart every 3-4 weeks and have them do it for about $15.
Lucky is excited to ride in the car and go anywhere. Getting him to go is no problem. He doesn't care for the actual experience. He has this look on his face like he's getting abused when he's on the groomer's table. Fortunately, his laid back nature is helpful because he does pretty well with letting the staff at Petsmart get the job done pretty quickly.
This is how Lucky spent part of Superbowl Sunday:

"Hey grooming lady, please hurry up so I can get back to my daddy"

if you don't hurry up and get this over with."
