Anthony loses his Waffle House virginity

After our trip to the casino today, I decided to pick a place to eat that Anthony had never been to before:  Waffle House.

I love Waffle House.  It's one of the greatest restaurants ever.  Reasonable prices, good quick food, interesting atmosphere.  They're open all of the time.  The waffles are delicious.  They also have outstanding cheeseburgers.

Plus, with the smothered, covered, country, etc. stuff you can add to hash browns, it's like an amusement park for your mouth.  (That means adding onions, or cheese, or gravy, or other fun additions like that).

Anthony had never been to Waffle House prior to today.  But, he wasn't resistant to the idea after having a few vodka mojitos.  Plus, I was paying.  I have always told him we need to eat there because it's soooooo wonderful.

I had their "All Star Special" with a waffle, sausage, eggs, hash browns, eggs, and a drink.  Anthony had the same thing but with bacon.

He said he liked the food.  Awesome!  We'll be back!

New Waffle House menu (the server said it was new).
It's certainly colorful and fun.

You can watch the cook make
your amazing Waffle House food.

Look at the spread we got at Waffle House
and it was all for about $20 bucks.

Birthday present from Casino Del Sol

My birthday was on July 2.  Every year, I get a flyer in the mail from Casino Del Sol inviting me to their July birthday party, where they do a free play giveaway and serve cake.

Today was the fourth time I've gone in the last five years.  They have 20 winners of $50 in slot play, one $500 winner, and one $1,000 winner.  I won $50 a few years back and was hopeful I would win something today.

Unfortunately, I didn't win any free play (slot play).  But, I did put $20 into a 50 cent slot machine and won some money (see the photo below).  It was like the casino gave me a birthday present that I really wanted.

Anthony came along and drank vodka mojitos.  We don't get out much for social things anymore so it was fun to go together.  And it was fun winning.  Because let's face it, losing sucks.

Here's Anthony's vodka mojito at Casino Del Sol.
The more of these he drank, the happier he became!

Winner!
Now THIS is a birthday present.

Shiny silver aluminum banana hat

I went into the kitchen in my apartment and found that the bunch of bananas on our counter had an aluminum hat.

I asked Anthony why the bananas were wearing a hat, and he corrected me by saying that it wasn't a hat, that he had read online that covering the stem of a bunch of bananas would make them last longer.

It looks like a hat to me.  I'm waiting for the bananas to ask for a pair of matching shoes.

Monsoon clouds over KGUN

Monsoon has had a pretty strong start this year.

We've had rain somewhere in the Tucson metro (and flooding, wind, a little hail, a few power outages, downed power poles/lines, etc.) most every day for almost a week.

Monsoon clouds can look kind of like an artist's painting.  It's a scene in the desert that locals cherish, because most days of the year it's sunny and this is the most interesting weather we get.  It's also so dry in this area all of the time that every drop of water is kind of precious.

I shot a few pictures of the skies over (and near) the KGUN building yesterday afternoon.  It looked about the same today as well.

We will rebuild

It's the end of a three day holiday weekend thanks to July 4 falling on a Friday this year.

I didn't do anything noteworthy.  I think I'm getting ultra boring in my old age.  I got a lot of sleeping in (I needed it), did my laundry, and only left the house twice all weekend.  Two of the three days this weekend we had monsoon thunderstorms but there wasn't anything but some wind and rain in my area of town.  The power outages, lightning, and thunder were in areas miles away.

Since Anthony and I both have empty bank accounts at the moment, we skipped our usual Sunday dinner out (I had a hot dog and chips at home) but we did go to the Walmart Neighborhood Market grocery store at 22nd and Craycroft.  We have to eat you know.

Monsoon storm clouds on Saturday.
They looked more threatening than they actually were.

The monsoon wind knocked some leaves onto the grass.
We will rebuild.

Anthony's now dead plants on our balcony.
The wind knocked the large one askew.
We will rebuild.

This new trend of 'water enhancers' must be stopped.

Reduced fat Oreo cookies
"Oh, you look like you've lost weight.
I'll bet you've been eating reduced fat Oreos"
said no one ever.

Nothing says summer like
Little Debbie Seashell Brownies.
I understand the beach graphic on the box
but don't know why there's an airplane.

Little Debbie Jellyfish cookies.
Wait until Little Debbie gets sued by a parent
whose child bit into a real jellyfish
thinking it's as delicious as this cookie.

Poor Anthony.
He was overwhelmed today by the enormous
choice of chips in a can.
He didn't end up getting any.
