Robert Wilson of The Gap Band found dead

Robert Wilson, one of the founding members of The Gap Band, was found dead in his home at the age of 53 by one of his adult children after unsuccessful attempts to get ahold of him.

Robert was the Gap Band's bass guitarist and his work as a bassist was admired in the music industry.

The Gap Band's two biggest hits were "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" and "Party Train" and is an artist we regularly play on Mega 106.3.

Cosmic Bingo Winner! (sort of)

I am a regular at Cosmic Bingo which is at Casino Del Sol in Tucson on Saturday nights.

Cosmic Bingo is kind of like Cosmic Bowling but its bingo instead.  Nightclub lighting, music, extra prizes in between bingo games, and its hosted by Tucson's "Queen of Comedy" Lucinda Holliday (a really fun and awesome drag queen).

I fill in for Lucinda when she travels although I don't do the drag part.  I'm a pretty goofy looking guy and putting me in a wig and high heels would likely scare most of the customers.

I like to play and its a lot of fun but I have never won a bingo.  I estimate at this point I've gone more than 70 times and have gotten within one or two numbers of winning but have never won cash.

I went with Anthony last night.  He has won at Cosmic Bingo before.  First night we were together we went and he not only won a bingo but also got into the money machine and walked out with nearly $800.

The money machine is a booth with a fan inside and a timer on it that the casino staff puts $2,500 in various denominations in and when its turned on the money blows around.  If you win the bingo game that puts you in the machine you have 35 seconds to grab as much of the money blowing around that you can and stuff into a slot.  You win however much you grab and stuff into the slot.

Anthony won the money machine cover all game and so did two other people.  He insisted that I get in the machine on his behalf since I've never had the chance.

Its tougher than it looks.  I had learned a couple strategies from my fill-in hosting duties that were helpful.  Kick the money up that collects at your feet so it blows around.  Hold your hands palms down in front of the slot you stuff the money into so it collects on your palms as it blows up from the floor.  You can't grab money below your waist so having the money blow around is an important part of having the best chance at grabbing the most possible.

I got a lot of bills stuffed in the slot but as luck wouldn't have it I didn't really grab much for big bills.  Lots of $5's.  Total grab for me was $305.

Two other people also won at the same time so all three of us got a turn in the machine and whoever grabbed the most was the amount split between the three of us.  The girl that went after me grabbed less than $200.  The third person was also a girl and I gave her the strategies that I had learned and she grabbed $310.  That was the amount split.

I tried to give Anthony the money but he insisted that since I got into the machine I got to keep it.  He's a generous man.  On a side note, the trip into the money machine he made in May 2009 netted him $425.  He's better at it than I am.

If you ever have the chance to go to Cosmic Bingo you should.  Its way fun.  Saturday nights at Casino Del Sol at 10:30 p.m.  Lucinda says it best:  "It's not your Grandma's Bingo"!

Video of me in the money machine is on my Facebook wall.  If we're not friends on Facebook we should be.  http://www.facebook.com/kencarr

Never call in hungover

I laughed (to myself) when I heard that one of my fellow employees at the ol' radio ranch called in today saying they couldn't work because they were too hungover.

I tried that once during my 23 year radio career and learned a valuable lesson.

I will preface by saying that I have rarely ever called in sick.  Probably a total of a week's worth of sick days in 23 years.  If I have a cold or a little flu I still come to work.  I did take two days off last year as sick days when I had my wisdom teeth pulled and I realized afterward I could have come into work the next day.  I still feel a little bit guilty about that.

Some people just get tired of working and call in sick when they're not.  I have only called in faking it once.  That was in California back in the late 1990's.  I still feel guilt about that and no one ever knew (until now).  Is my dedication to my career a little over the top?  That could probably be debated.

I attempted to call in after getting a little too carried away with having cocktails one time.  I was supposed to do a live broadcast at a Family Dollar store in California and I couldn't stop throwing up the morning after going to a party.  I called my Program Director and was honest about the situation.  He told me:  "If its self caused, I'm not excusing you.  You're going to have to suffer."

I suffered.  I went.  I could hardly function.  I powered my way through and I learned a valuable lesson.  I occasionally have had a little too much a night before I was supposed to work.  But I've always felt after that experience in California that its my responsibility to tough it out.  Because I caused it.

Never call in hungover even if you are.  You'll be a better employee than most if you don't.

Hungry? Try a McGangBang

Today I learned about the "McGangBang".

Before your mind slides right into the gutter, its a sandwich combination from McDonald's.  It is not sold on the McDonald's menu (although there are rumors that if you go to McDonald's a lot of employees know what it is).  I have not eaten one yet but I'm seriously considering it.

The McGangBang is a McChicken sandwich in the middle of a double cheeseburger.  There is also the "Unprotected McGangBang" which substitutes a Hot N' Spicy McChicken for the regular McChicken inside of a double cheeseburger.

Review: Taco Bell Carnitas Tacos

I am sad to tell you that the first food item I've truly been disappointed in from Taco Bell has come to Tucson area Taco Bell restaurants.

I ordered the Carnitas tacos (which they are also calling "street tacos") and had high hopes.

I ordered three.  They are $1.49 each.  If you order the combo you get three tacos plus a drink.

I ordered steak.  You can also get chicken and pork.

The tortillas are a little larger than the average "street tacos" you get from a taco truck.  When I opened the aluminum foil wrap there was a lime and the taco inside.  I saw the larger tortilla and thought I'd get more inside than the standard street taco.

I was extremely disappointed.  One of the tacos had a total of six pieces of meat inside.  The pieces of meat were small so essentially it was a whole lot of tortillas and next to nothing inside except for six tiny pieces of meat, a little bit of cilantro, and some onion pieces.

Based on my experience of ordering the Taco Bell Carnitas tacos I can't recommend them.  You get much more for your money from a local taco truck.
