Twitter hacked - apparent result of "Iranian Cyber Army" - December 17, 2009

I attempted to log onto Twitter a little while ago and found the entire site offline.

After doing some digging, it apparently is the result of a cyber attack from the "Iranian Cyber Army". There was a period of time when a graphic from the hackers appeared when logging onto Twitter and now the site is offline entirely. I have not been able to locate any information that indicates when Twitter service might be restored but they seem on top of finding out at Tech Crunch.

Update 12/18/09: The Twitter website just came back online at 12:10 a.m. Mountain time. Apparently the outage primarily affected the Twitter website itself and Twitter mobile website but some API's continued to function (such as some of the apps for iPhones, Blackberries, etc.) Twitter has reported on it's status blog that its DNS was compromised (that's the thing that sends you to their website when you type the address into your browser). It seems back to normal now.
